Several individuals involved in the project attended a Learning Event organised by Neath Port Talbot Children’s services and Social Care Wales in Margam. Neath Port Talbot Children’s Services shared their story about the journey they have taken with Outcomes Focused Practice.
Several speakers shared examples of good practice and the work that has been undertaken to transform practice in Neath Port Talbot. They discussed changes to structure and procedures within the Local Authority, and stories from service users about the impact the transformation has had on them. Of note, implementing this approach across the spectrum of need has created benefits across the whole system. This investment indicated that prevention of escalation was being seen as families engaged in defining their own outcomes, focussing on strengths and changing the conversation with them. Early indication was that the whole system approach had impacted on potential numbers of children subject to child protection plans or becoming looked after.
The event also provided an opportunity to network and liaise with professionals from across the country and across professions.
